Taste of Indonesia "Warteg"  

What's on our mind while visiting somewhere? definitely the food. When you visit Indonesia there is a restaurant located everywhere. You can find it on the outskirts of the road in all major cities in Indonesia. The restaurant is called "Warteg" in short (Warung Tegal), which is a simple restaurant that sells a wide range of dishes at cheap prices.

Tegal is a town in Java and, although the owner will probably be from there, the food available isn’t necessarily specific to the region.The foods that are on offer at a warteg are simple and easy to cook, including nasi goreng (fried rice) and mie instan (instant noodles), along with pisang goreng (fried bananas), coffee, tea and various drinks.

The menu provided by the multitude of warteg in Jakarta offers a rather more complete package, with the likes of ayam goreng (fried chicken), ikan goreng (fried fish), ikan balado (grilled mackerel with balado sambal), orek tempe (tempeh in sweet soy sauce), telur balado (eggs with balado sambal), sayur sawi (Chinese green mustard) and fritters among the obligatory treats. Some may also add soto ayam (chicken soup) or sop sayur (vegetable soup) into the mix.

Writer chose sauté mushrooms ( tumis jamur ), omelet (telur dadar), noodles, fried tofu (gorengan) and sweet iced tea.The taste of warteg food is not much better than home cooking, but when you're traveling, it's enough to make a full stomach. It tastes quite spicy and savory, plus fried tofu is quite delicious and to enjoy the meal was definitely with a glass of sweet iced tea.
